863: Percy Jackson 6 was an interesting experience
In this episode, I felt like I was in a surreal film…
Friends, friends, friends.
Welcome back to Teatime Reading where there are books in progress.
I have repeatedly discussed my love for the Percy Jackson series. Not only that, but Heroes of Olympus, the Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase, and the larger Riordan-verse.
It has been one of the most important worlds of my childhood, and I am so glad they are adapting Percy Jackson to the screen for Disney+ (fingers crossed for a season 2).
Anyway, when author Rick Riordan announced that he was returning to the original trio from Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a sixth book, I was cautiously optimistic. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Trials of Apollo series or the Nico DiAngelo spin-off, but there was always a charm for Percy, Annabeth, and Grover as the original team and original friends.
The Chalice of the Gods was that sixth book and before I started reading, I realized that this sequel was actually a new trilogy of books. That was a pleasant surprise but the reality remained that I needed to actually enjoy this book before thinking about book 7.
After 10 full books of high stakes and saving the world, I was very charmed by the quest of Chalice of the Gods.
Percy needed letters of recommendation from three different Gods in order to go to New Rome University. Now, was I annoyed that he had a double standard as the child of Poseidon (a member of the so-called Big Three gods)? Absolutely.
But charmed? Absolutely. Percy and Annabeth have been through so much together, and the reunion with their buddy Grover under (slightly) less apocalyptic conditions really made me happy.
Instead of doing things for the world’s sake, they were helping each other, and it made me so happy.
As I was getting ready for the Disney+ show, I was getting to see Percy, Annabeth, and Grover at the next stages of their journey, and it is just a treat to experience.
I will always recommend Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan’s universe of stories, both by him specifically and the other excellent authors in his imprint.
Now, I just have to wait until the next book in this next Percy Jackson trilogy.
Until next time, keep your bookmarks close.
Peace, Love, Pages.
